How do you manage being a creative when your space is a kitchen table, maybe the corner of a spare bedroom or even the kitchen counter?
In this Creative Thoughts and Talk video, I’ll share some ideas that will help you be creative in a small space while keeping everything tidy.
I'd like to hear from you...
What is your creative space like? What do you love about it? please share in the comments below.
I am extremely fortunate to have the whole front room if our house as my studio/craft room, but with that said it’s still not organized the way I need it to be. I think the more space I have the more stuff I have acquired so I am still in the process of finding everything a permanent home and then i need to remember to always return it there! And I’m terrible about always thinking I can repurpose something especially in a piece of art so that’s a habit I need to break (at least a little) so I don’t continue to acquire so much”junk”!
I hear ya! when I moved into my current tiny townhouse, I started in the smallest room. The room is so small it can only hold a double bed and nightstand, nothing else. Had my studio in that room. Then after complaining I couldn’t move, I went into the middle sized room, still not enough. Then I swapped rooms with the master bedroom and finally, I was happy. But… I started to accumulate more and more stuff and for me, out of sight, out of mind. So last weekend, we swapped back, downsizing like crazy to the essentials and I feel SOOOOO much better.
I have a tiny space in our second living room where I can close the door and leave things. But it usually is open bc Emma our dog loves that room too. And I made myself a table out of wine boxes to hold all my stuff. It already is too small now and I will add some more boxes as shelves. I really use every tiny space of that storage table and create a mess when needing something from the second row and putting it back again bc I can’t leave everything on the table bc that’s too small and a messy place where I can’t find the scissors I just had in my hands drives me nuts and I find myself more looking for thongs or cleaning the space than creating. I also tried to immediately put things back which helps me have room on my table which I like but which interrupts my creative flow. I hope getting 3 more boxes, meaning 6 more shelves with boxes for what I need right beside my table will help getting things handy. I hope this is explained understandable.
It’s nice that you can close the door when you want to be creative. So as you’re using stuff try this… you have a tool in your hand, such as scissors. When deciding to put them away now or later, think of how you’ll feel when you can’t find them 🙂 Would love to see a picture on how you are setting up those wine boxes!
I think I g’ll get them next month and will post a picture then ?. I already got some more fabric boxes from the dollar store … and collect glasses to hold my pencils, scissors etc.. Usually get 4 of them in one box and 4 small boxes in one big one … that will help getting all the stuff I need most in front of me and so make room in the storage table ? … and you’re right puttinf it away immediately DOES help … but sometimes it just …. uuurrggg
I can’t wait to see it, just trying to imagine the setup 🙂
