I had a dream of deep sea diving and I was trying to get some coral, but when I tried to touch it, it turned invisible.

That’s it…all I can remember.

That inspired this little painting experiment. Overlaying a transparent texture medium on top of a colour to make it look 3 dimensional.

I’m painting with acrylics, so it’s easy for cleanup, but the drying time at the end was quite long.

Surface:

  • 6×6 back stapled canvas

Palette: DecoArt Americana Premium Acrylics

  • Phthalo Blue – DTGA24
  • Ultramarine Blue – DTA33
  • Hansa Yellow Light – DTA18
  • Burnt Sienna – DTA09
  • Titanium White – DTA40

Prep, Mediums and Finish:

DecoArt Americana Premium Mediums:

  • Heavy Gel Medium (Gloss) – DTAM02
  • White Gesso – DTAM07

Stencils:  

DecoArt Americana Decor Laser-Cut Stencil: Coral – ADS103

Brushes:

  • Aqualon
    • 1″ & 3/4″ Glaze – R2700
    • #12 Shader – R2150
    • #4 Round – R2250
  • Majestic: 1″ Oval Wash – R4950
  • 3/8″ stencil brush

General Supplies:

  • water bucket
  • paper towels
  • palette knife
