Mixed Media Collage Art with Jewelry – Junk Can Be Beautiful Series
In part 3 of the Junk Can Be Beautiful series, I’m going to be creating mixed media collage art with jewelry. Not any jewelry, broken, defective, but pretty jewelry.

This mixed media art project features burlap, circles and broken buttons. This is project 2 of the Junk Can Be Beautiful series and is dedicated to Joe.
I hosted a swap called “Junk Can Be Beautiful” and it involved making a mixed media collage art piece using nothing but scraps, leftovers, recycled material and stuff you didn’t like on a 4″x4″. What started out as one project, in my mind I came up with six.
After creating 49 book of background pages, we finally get to make a stencil and collage book cover.
We’ve finally made it!
This will be the inside front cover so I can do a bit of writing on the inside about the journey. To keep things simple, you can use any heavy cardstock, masonite or corrugated cardboard. We’ll use printed paper as the background and stencil tinted modeling page for a simple accent. Keep the stencil and collage book cover simple as the embellishing will really make the page pop in phase two.
In Book of Backgrounds 35, we’re going to take on a travel scene for this page. Collaging theme paper, then painting the paper is the main technique in the video. Painting upside down and tearing the paper is optional 🙂
